Character
Name: Sheska
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 anime)
Timeline: Episode 51 - After she returns to Central
Canon Resource Links: FMA Wiki
Personality: Odd duck, mousy, doesn’t fit in, and always has her face in a book. This is how Sheska is described to the Elric brothers. And they are all very accurate descriptions of her. When Ed and Al seek for her help, they find her trapped under a mountain of books. And oh boy, does she ever have a lot of books. This is because Sheska, well, is a bookworm, as much as she doesn't like being called one since it implies that her love for books is negative. In fact, Sheska doesn't really like when people imply negative things about her, like when she believes Falman doesn't think of her as a cute, smart, funny girl with a good personality. Although, she is aware of her faults and shortcomings, like her over-obsession for books which has caused her to lose jobs.
Sheska is, well, a tiny bit scatterbrained and overly suspicious. That is, she believes in aliens... in a universe where aliens don't exist. While doing research on Juliet Douglas, who is supposed to be dead and yet is currently working for the Führer, Sheska believes that she clearly must be... an alien. Even after she learns that Juliet Douglas is not in fact, an alien, she's disappointed. She often jumps to conclusions, panics, freaks out et cetera. When Maria Ross and Denny Blosh visit to check up on her and Winry, she believes that they're there to kill her for the secrets she knows and freaks out.
But despite her oddities, Sheska is a very loyal subordinate with a good set of morals, although they aren't inflexible. She's extremely thankful of Hughes for hiring her as she had troubles finding and holding down a job. She's shown attending his funeral, and visits his grave often, as seen in episode 38 and in the finale. When the investigation of his death is closed unsolved, she begs for Roy Mustang to keep it open as he has the power and was close to Hughes. However, Roy tells her that he won't, she runs off in tears, believing that Roy only cares about his rank. Not long after being fired by Hughes and his death, Frank Archer offers to rehires her in order to recreate some files. Sheska sees this as an opportunity to find information about Hughes death and takes the job. When then ordered to destroy one-of-a-kind documents, and later eavesdrop by tap phone lines, she objects as she believes it's wrong, but realizes that she doesn't have much choice as she's determined to solve Hughes murder.
After been told that the reason Roy didn't tell the Elric brothers about Hughes death was so that they didn't to try to seek revenge—as it's against what Hughes wanted—Sheska realizes that Roy does care for more than his rank and that she should have trusted him.

[ As the video feed is accidentally turned on by a highly curious Cleffa, the screaming of a young woman can be heard loud and clear. ]
AAAAAAAAAAAAH, ALIENS! I-I've been kidnapped by aliens! I always knew this would happen! This is a nightmare come true! [ The Star Shape Pokémon examines the Pokégear with childlike wonder, and unknowingly shifts the camera's focus to a mousy, bespectacled young woman in uniform currently sitting on the floor—obviously the source of the screaming. The baby Pokémon harmlessly approaches the panicking Sheska, who immediately scoots away as fast as possible until she's against the wall. ]
Nonononono! Stay away from me, alien! I know what you're planning, but I won't have any of that! [ Blindly reaching for a weapon, she grabs a convenient placed book and throws it at Cleffa, sending both the Pokégear and Pokémon flying, abruptly ending the stream. ]

Sheska was not an outdoorsy person. There were millions of things that didn't involve going outside. Reading, cooking, reading, writing, reading, cleaning, reading... plenty of stuff. But here she was, standing before the fine line between New Bark Town and Route 29.
"Route 29... the only way out here."
She certainly didn't want to stay in New Bark Town, it was a bit too... rural for her taste. However, she had never really traveled before. There was the one time she had visited Winry's hometown, but that was by train. This was different. This was by foot. She would have to walk great distances. And if what she had heard was true, it would take three days to get to the next town. Which meant that she would also have to camp. And that was a whole other can of worms.
Camping. She wasn't looking forward to that either. After all, who knows what could happen to her out there, in the untamed wilderness. She could be attacked by aliens... er, wild Pokémon while sleeping! Or freeze to death! Or get lost, never to be found again! The possibilities are endless. There's no way that she could handle all that alone.
"Clef?" Then, as if to snap Sheska out of her depression, the tiny pink Pokémon peeped up and stated at its trainer questioningly.
Oh, that's right, she had Index, her quirky and very curious Cleffa. The Star Shape Pokémon wasn't exactly... very reassuring as protection compare to other Pokémon she saw, but maybe it was more powerful than she thought. After all, even small things can be frightening and strong, like spiders or Edward when his height is insulted. Who knows, Index could in fact be a super powerful Pokémon. Or maybe she was just hoping that would be the case. Yeah, Index could totally handle any wild Pokémon that came their way!
"Well, let's get going Index! We have a long road ahead of us!"
Then, bravely with her head held high, Sheska took her first step onto Route 29.
